In the 90s, one woman planted the seed in women’s skateboarding:

Patty Segovia Krause launched the “All Girl Skate Jam (AGSJ)” and ignited a grassroots social movement. As a sport’s agent and professional photographer, she was representing many of the top female skateboarders in the sport at the time. Soon, she would help propel female riders toward appearing in the first ever televised professional and amateur skateboarding contests for women to be featured on major television networks.

Patty represented many of the girls competing at the time, helping them acquire sponsorship. She did this by photographing, videotaping and producing international contests globally — documenting and making an impact for women in this sport. Tony Hawk referred to the AGSJ as the OG.

Patty defied the then male-dominated scene of the sport to establish and showcase women. She was a high-energy, determined fixture on the scene, but also a spokesperson of women in board sports.

The first AGSJ demo was held in Reno, Nevada in 1990 – thanks to Frank Hawk who allowed the AGSJ to use his ramps in conjunction with the National Skateboard Association’s boys and men’s contest series at the time. Famed Skateboarder Cara-Beth Burnside won a pink scooter at this event and at just age 16, famed Skateboarder Danny Way was a judge at this ground-breaking debut event.

Graduating with her sociology degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara, Patty set forth creating her grassroots PRO/AM contest series beginning in San Diego 1997, offering a girls-only competition with $5,000 prizes.
The AGSJ tour travelled across the United States, Hawaii and Europe. Patty is also the author of three books on skateboarding that can be found on Amazon. She is the Executive Producer of the AGSJ video  1999 and served as spokesperson in countless media outlets such as Time Out NY, Latina Magazine and more. Her photos have been published in 100s of media outlets including Time, The New York Times, USA Today and Sports Illustrated for Women.

To this day, Patty is still dedicated to connecting her action board sports women in her sphere of influence to achieve their dreams of becoming homeowners in coastal SoCal. It took well into the 21st century for female boarders to be seen.
